Supporting Food Generators
Abound Food Care partners with the food industry by providing tools, resources, and solutions that allow for the safe and convenient donation of excess edible food – reducing food waste and operational costs, while helping to end hunger and protect our planet.
The Problem
Food generators (such as restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, distributors, and growers) often have excess edible food that goes to landfill rather than helping feed people who are food insecure. The challenges of identifying food recovery organizations who can accept donations, coordinating logistics of delivery, and ensuring food safety through the entire supply chain can make donating food difficult.
Restaurants and other food generator’s food waste amounts to
$2 Billion
in lost profits. Equivalent to 22,000 restaurant’s total yearly revenue.
Guiding the Way
Generator Program Implementation
Abound Food Care helps food generators such as restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, distributors, and growers safely donate excess edible food and maximize financial rewards. We identify qualified partners, assist with contract process, and provide tracking and reporting to ensure food safety, support community impact, and help you gain cost and tax benefits.
Food Recovery Organization Network
By identifying and connecting all food recovery organizations within a given area, we enable connections to nearby locations who are willing and able to accept donations of edible food. Larger donations can be routed to Food Repurposing Kitchens which use recovered products to create nutritious meals.
Logistics Coordination
Through integration with modern technology platforms, donations are logged then linked to nonprofits that can receive and distribute donated food quickly. A trained and equipped logistics provider completes the donation run, tracking critical food safety components such as time and temperature.
